Jann Mardenborough is a renowned British racing driver from Wales. He became a top most racing driver after winning the GT Academy competition in 2011. Jann Mardenborough was born on 9th September 1991 in Darlington, County Durham, England and spent most of his early childhood in Cardiff, Wales because his father shifted for switching to a new team. He is the son of professional soccer player Steve Mardenborough. His mother is Lesley-Anne Mardenborough. He attended Radyr Comprehensive School. From an early age, he was passionate about racing drive but due to financial constraints, it would become difficult for him to get a chance directly and no one from his family background was related to the professional racing industry.
But, he developed a passion for car racing from an early age. During his teenage, he used to play a Gran Turismo video game on the Original Pay station at his friend’s house. He was only eight at that time when he realized his love for racing games. Not only that, he was so passionate about racing that he himself made a racing simulator rig. He used his video gaming skills in racing games successfully later days.
Jann Mardenborough got admitted to Swansea Metropolitan University renamed as University of Wales Trinity Saint David for Motorsport Engineering in 2010 but dropped out his college only after three weeks as he recognized his dislike for Mathematics. He understood his passion for racing and returned back to his home town. He started living with his parents. In 2011 during the gap year, he entered GT Academy and took intensive training with a five-month driver development program. This helped him to gain the necessary skills to become a professional racer.

- In the year 2011, Jann Mardenborough participated in the Sony and Nissan-sponsored GT Academy competition for Gran Turismo 5. He competed with 90000 contestants and placed himself in the top 20 finalist. He was just 19 at this time and youngest winner.
- Then he competed for Nissan in Dubai 24 Hour Race and got 3rd place in his class in the year 2012 for Dubai 24. Armed with a Nissan Nismo GT-R GT3 race car, he participated in the British GT Championship and Blancpain Endurance Series in the same year.
